Feb. 2 – Feb. 23 Thursdays – 8 a.m. Trail Work on the Florida Trail Meet at Blackwater River State Park (North parking lot of Deaton Bridge). Western Gate Chapter of the Florida Trail Association regularly schedules trail work on the Florida National Scenic Trail and its Sidetrail in Escambia and Santa Rosa Counties (FL) each Thursday. Feb. 3 Friday – 6 p.m. Friday Night Dinner Hike – Pensacola Aviation Center (4145 Jerry Maygarden Dr. – meet in the parking lot). Enjoy a two-mile hike along Jerry Maygarden Dr and through a park and scenic area neighborhood. Dutch treat dinner to follow at Cactus Cantina Restaurant. contact Peggy Grantham at (850) 982-9490. Feb. 11 Saturday - 7:30 a.m. Introductory Trail Work in Blackwater River State Forest Meet at the Milton What-a-Burger (5346 Stewart St., Milton). All members welcome, especially those who have little/no experience doing trail work! Wear closed-toe shoes, bring work gloves and lunch/ snacks/water. Sunscreen and bug spray are highly recommended. Feb. 16 Thursday Western Gate Chapter Meeting – 6:30 p.m. social | 7 p.m. meeting (First Christian Church, 6031 Goodrich Dr., Pensacola) Meetings are open to the public. Light refreshments available at 6:30 p.m. Program: Andy Niekamp, a long-distance hiker will give a presentation on his hiking/backpacking adventures on the Colorado Trail. Feb. 18 Saturday Karick Lake Hike 9:30 a.m. Meet at the Karick Lake South Campground (Highway 189 north of Baker, FL). Hike the 4-mile Karick Lake loop trail which crosses multiple segments of the Lake with lunch to follow at Gator’s Diner in Baker – great shakes and malts and burgers. Yum!
