ProHealth ready for your summer boo boos

ProHealth Medical Care has a mission in mind: keeping you safe and healthy this summer while you enjoy the pleasures associated with the summer sun.

The professional healthcare providers at ProHealth Medical Care urge you to play it safe on the beach by being prepared.

Remember that the sun is at its strongest from 11 a.m.-2 p.m., and plan your outdoors fun accordingly. If your schedule can’t be adjusted for staying out of direct rays during those times, in particular, make sure you cover up with sun-block every two hours or more often (SPF 30 or more); wear a hat with a brim that will keep your face, neck and shoulders shaded; and put on body-covering clothing that will protect you from top to bottom.

Keep in mind that your body needs to cool down and is equipped to do that, but you need to give it help by keeping fully hydrated. Drink. Drink a lot. Drink a lot of water. Nothing takes the place of water, so make it your beverage of choice and imbibe freely and frequently, even if you don’t “feel” thirsty.

Love the feel of sand between your toes and under your soles? Striding along the beach can be a wonderful experience, but don’t forget that there are sharp objects imbedded in the sand sometimes. Make sure you protect your feet from prickly or cutting items that either wash ashore or are dropped there by your fellow revelers. And if you do get a cut, trust ProHealth Medical Care to treat it right away, before your trip to the beach becomes a spectator-only event.

Be alert to what your body is telling you and to the appearance and comments of babies, children and teens, in particular. If you or someone in your group is nauseous, unusually fatigued or complaining of a headache, muscle cramps or dizziness, the problem may be heat exhaustion. Resting immediately in a cool place when these symptoms show up can sometimes be all the treatment needed, but if the yucky feelings persist or grow worse, seek help from medical professionals like those at ProHealth Medical Care immediately.
