Homecoming for Blues shines light on Vets

It’s time to wrap up the months of high-flying excitement provided by NAS Pensacola Blue Angels for this year. The Blues will be closing out the season during Veterans Day weekend and have invited friends to join them in making this a star-studded, thrill-filled, pride-raising event to further honor men and women who have served this country through the Armed Forces. Members of the team include the best and brightest – members of the U.S. Navy and U.S. Marine Corps – at the top of their craft who will someday be veterans, themselves, surrounded by special memories of the joy they have brought others with their skill and daring.

Since 1946, the Blue Angels have appeared before more than 260 million spectators with aerobatic demonstrations in six F/A-18 Hornet aircraft. On Nov. 10 and 11, they will acknowledge their biggest fans – the homefolks in the northwest Florida Panhandle – with a spectacular weekend of aerial fun.

The Blues will be sharing the skies and the surrounding area with several other specialists in speed. Go to naspensacolaairshow.com for up-to-date information on the other high flyers and ground-level speed jockeys who will be taking part.

Admission is free for daytime shows that begin at 9:30 a.m. Friday, Nov. 11, and Saturday, Nov. 12. Gates will open at 8 a.m. The Friday night show will begin at 4 p.m.

The Blues will take to the skies both days around 2 p.m. but will not take part in the night time extravaganza.

Admission, parking and blanket seating are free for those who want to stand or sit on blankets or folding chairs they provide themselves, but reserved seating can also be purchased at the Tickets and Travel office at the NEX Mall on Highway 98 or online at the website noted above. Check out the options for Chalet Seating while you are online.

In addition to the excitement of the pilots and drivers, those attending can enjoy aircraft on display, virtual games, vendor booths, food booths, souvenir booths and a kids’ fun-zone with an inflatable obstacle course, Spider Mountain, bounce houses, the popular gyro and more.

Everyone is welcome at this end-of-season veteran-honoring celebration, but come prepared for the weather and the presence of many others who will want to take part in the fun.

All the information you need to plan a spectacular outing is available online.
