Here’s what to look for on the calendar during Mardi Gras on the Island. Keep in mind, however, that home folks and visitors alike frequently make their own fun, inspired by the imaginative efforts and Mardi Gras spirit of those who signed on for fun all those years ago. • For information on Krewe celebrations, most of which are open to the public and begin as early as Jan. 6, go to pensacolabeachmardigras.com and then go to “Events” and “Island Events.”

• Saturday, Jan. 27, at Castaway’s on Pensacola Beach Boardwalk, 7 p.m. Shamrock-N-Roll Ball. Ticket information by contacting Krewe of St. Patrick on their krewe Facebook page and online at www.KreweofStPatrick.com.

• Dance the night away to the tunes of Trunk Monkey. The Krewe of Seville is your host for this formal affair that is anything but stuffy. For tickets or more information go to kreweofseville.org.

• Saturday, Feb. 3, at 1 p.m. Familyfriendly giant party that is free to all. Hosted by the Krewe of Jesters in Navarre. More information about the event is available at www.nkoj.org or through Wayne Hall at (850) 939-5644 or at rtchief47@bellsouth.net

• Saturday, Feb. 3, Kids and Kritters Parade. Registration at 1 p.m. Begins at 2.

• Saturday, Feb. 10 at 1 p.m. Street Dance at Sabine Sandbar on Pensacola Beach Boulevard. Free.

• De Luna Fest. Date to be announced, but traditionally on the Sunday prior to the Wrecks Parade. Bars vying for top votes for best free red beans and rice on the Beach.
